Public Transit Use Associated with Increasing COVID Infections
Minority citizens who are more likely to use mass transit are more likely to get infected with COVID-19.  Bloomberg News reports that a University of Virginia study shows minority workers are more dependent on subways and buses to get to work. This could explain why African-Americans are 3.5 times more likely to die with COVID-19.
The overcrowding problem is also supported by an MIT study which speculates that proximity to strangers for extended periods can create a fertile transmission virus route.

Perhaps this is why, in Paris, transit riders must wear face masks and every other seat on trains and subways must be kept empty.

COVID and PI Today
Looks like COVID is not going away soon. The percentage of those testing positive is growing with over 2,000,000 tests taken so far. The California Department of Public Health published a July 6 update that Californians have over 260,000 infections. 

Of the 260,000 infections, 225,000 are now with people under the age of 64, with the majority coming from the 18-49 age range. 

What does this mean to treating doctors?

Office protocols are important.

  • Patients are in fear;
  • The clinic needs to look pristine and spacious;
  • The staff needs to look safe by wearing masks;
  • Doctors need to emphasize safety to each patient;
  • And doctor need to ask key questions each time to patient regarding possible symptoms. 

Still some patients are reluctant to see their doctor, thus delaying their healing. 

We also advocate Tele-medicine. You can help patients by listening, advising and monitoring your patients --- and you should bill. By utilizing Tele-medicine, the patient is kept under care by the doctor.

Lewkovich: How to Easily Prove Up a Patient's Lost Earnings
Quite often a patient’s loss of earnings [LOE] can be the biggest portion of a PI case. Certainly diagnosis, care and bills are crucial. However, if the patient cannot work, then that is another source for increasing PI value.
Most states will allow full recovery to the patient of the Gross Loss of Earnings. Judges, mediators, and juries are usually quite generous to ensure the patient is made whole.

Naturally the more bona fide the patient’s LOE, the higher the PI value.

How does the doctor do this? PI Guru Gary Lewkovich created an easy worksheet which gives the best documentation ever.

Examples include:

  • Days lost from work,
  • Time lost from work going to doctor,
  • Sick day(s) used up, 
  • Transportation allowance,
  • And many more.
