A “consultant” group is offering a referral deal to California doctors. But there are a number of troubling items in the agreement that the doctor is supposed to sign.
The agreement calls for the doctor to retain the services of consultant to "provide business development, marketing..." That language always gets my attention when placed in a personal injury context. This smells like a paying for cases scheme.
Additionally, the doctor authorizes the "consultant" to negotiate all liens on their behalf. The consultant will secure 1/3 of the PI settlement then pay all the doctors a pro-rata portion on the PI liens.
This sounds like the third, third, and third squeeze that always hurts doctors. We discussed this dishonest approach by unscrupulous lawyers before.
Then, the consultant charges a whopping 25% ‼️
We cannot think of any advantage for the PI doctor to sign up with such a "consultant". No matter how hard the treating doctors work or how “good” is the case, doctors will automatically face a major reduction of their fees.

Thanking Dr. Scott for sending us this potentially disastrous referral scheme.
