GM Recall: Report ‘links’ faulty vehicle to 303 Deaths

The Center for Auto Safety reviewed U.S. federal crash data for the GM models. GM recalled nearly 1.6 million vehicles due to faulty ignition switches, which could turn off the ignition, thus disabling the airbags.

GM admitted that its employees knew about the problem as early as 2004. Six GM models are involved, but the small-sized Cobalts and Ions seem to have the biggest problems.

Complaints emerged when the engine suddenly turned off while in motion --- causing the driver to lose control.

GM claims that the report’s findings are “speculation”.
