Are All MRI's Created Equal?

No. MRI's are the Gold Standard for imaging. However, a new comprehensive study ..."found marked variability in the reported interpretative findings and a high prevalence of interpretative errors in radiologist's reports ..."

The implications for PI are enormous. PI attorneys know that interpretations can be wildly different. A "positive" showing a protruding 8-mm disc can be a huge value. However, if an insurance doctor sees the same MRI he may judge the MRI to show only a 2-mm protrusion and not consequential.

PRACTICE TIPS
  • Hospital MRI interpretations tend to be rushed and ultra conservative.

  • The quality of the MRI equipment is crucial.
  • DACBR's generally give better and more thorough interpretations.

Golden State Warriors Coach's Herniated Disc Highlights Question to Get Surgery or Rehab: Failed Surgery
Steve Kerr, the Warriors Coach has missed a good portion of the NBA finals.  He has been in excruciating pain. He regrets having the surgery to repair a ruptured disc.

A spinal leak continues to plague Kerr two years after. To anyone who will listen he says, "If you have a back problem, stay away from surgery."

According to the Center for Disease Control nearly 30% of all US adults each year suffer from back pain. With Kerr's failed back surgery, a spinal fluid leak from a dural tear during the procedure left him with lingering complications like headaches and persistent pain that changed his life.
