Jeffrey Koopen, 25, was a boat passenger operating on New Melones reservoir in Angels Camp. Defendant operator had been drinking. Defendant struck an invisible shallow island ejecting Koopen from the boat and hitting his head on a rocky shore.
Jeffrey immediately suffered a coma and TBI [traumatic brain injury] with joint contractures and a wrist fracture. His combined medical bills exceeded $300,000. Also, Koopen demanded $100,000 for future medical costs and $4 million for future wages lost.
