Dr. Michael J. Katz MD conducted over 1000 med-legal exams each year. Queens Supreme Court Justice Duane Hart, unsealed Katz's testimony and is considering referring the case to the District Attorney regarding so called "independent Medical Exams."
Katz hired by insurance companies [New York] to defend personal injury cases, testified that he makes over a million dollars a year from this work. He testified that the typically spends 10-20 minutes for each examination. However, a plaintiff attorney surreptitiously made a video revealing that Katz spent a mere one minute and 56 seconds on the exam and could not have made is findings in that short period of time.
The Judge stated that Katz not only was dishonest but the substance of his testimony could not be true.
IME's are critical to the defense of personal cases, used to 'evaluate' claims resulting is denials or discounting.
Despite the court's judgment, Dr. Katz is still doing medical-exams.
