Allstate continues to use Colossus
In a recent letter dated May 10, 2011, Allstate issued a letter to claimants regarding “important information regarding your bodily claim.“
“One of the tools that our claim personnel may use in evaluating your claim is a computer program known as Colossus, … Colossus uses a broad range of information about your injury, treatment and prognosis to determine the severity of your injury.
Colossus makes a recommendation as to the value of your injury.” [emphasis added]
Certainly more than 80% of auto liability insurance companies rely on software computers to evaluate how much they will pay on Personal Injury claims.
Those who still think humans evaluate PI claims are living in the past. Your report—with smart diagnosis and prognosis [focus on what is NOT healed=residuals] is more important than ever.
28 % of accidents involve talking, texting on cell phones
According to the National Safety Council texting is a growing cause for accidents. There are some 1.4 million accidents annually, [150,000 in California alone] some 200,000 are blamed on cell phones.
A group modeled after MADD [Mothers Against Drunk Driving], Focus Driven, states that ‘persuading people to break that habit could be a tall order.”

Blowout Verdict in San Luis Obispo : Doc of the Month – Kirk Azevedo DC
Robert Humphrey, 37, passenger in a Honda CRV. A Lexus struck his car forcing it into a truck. Humphrey complained of low back pain at the scene and was taken by ambulance to the emergency room.
Dr. Kirk Azevedo took control shortly after the accident and carefully managed this case. First Dr. Kirk referred his patient to Dr. Segal for concussion and lumbar issues. Dr. Segal suggested a lumbar fusion. A second opinion suggested a series of transforaminal epidural shots, and opined that future lumbar fusion would be required in 10 years.
Two medical defendant experts claimed there was no nerve impingement despite MRI readings, one opined that Johnson’s problems were pre-existing degenerative changes.
Defendant offered $290,000 which was turned down. Humphrey demanded policy limits of $500,000.
The Jury deliberated only 4 hours, and awarded $725,280. San Luis Obispo Superior Ct, CV 098 183, July 5 2011.
