Why does a serious injury or surgery to an upper extremity significant complicate trauma care?
According to Croft, the presence of a disc herniation the injury may either a Grade IV or Grave V. Another serious residual is the upper extremity that suffered serious injury or surgery.
Either injury can take significant time to heal. And then it’s never the same. For upper extremities the healing curve can be thwarted by:
- Asymmetrical injuries cause distorted pressure to the neck and upper spine;
- Cause biomechanical distortions: muscle weakness and atrophy to the injury site & dramatic increase to uninjured side.
- Normal sleep patterns are interrupted and replaced by destabilize the spine and supporting structures.
- Fatigue at multiple injury sites inhibits the healing biochemistry—especially in the first 6-8 weeks post injury.
- Likelihood of Double-Crush phenomenon is high. The nerve path if repeatedly assaulted will slow regeneration—causing neurological damage.
