Halloween 2019 our client was walking in a crosswalk with a green “walk” signal when an SUV making an unprotected left drove into her at ~20 mph.
An eyewitness testified that she saw “the body fly through the air.” When she landed, she shattered both wrists, broke her pelvis, and her knee. She spent 29 days in three different hospitals and was released on Thanksgiving Day.
She spent the next 3 months bedridden, learning to walk and perform other basic tasks again. Over the course of the next few years, she had three wrist surgeries and an epidural injection in her back.
This case went to trial on August 12, 2022, after Defendant refused to admit fault (blaming Plaintiff entirely for her injuries) and only offering $550,000. After hearing from many of her treating doctors as well as some friends (Plaintiff was a lifelong, professional dancer…something that was taken away from her) at trial, the jury deliberated for ~3 hours before returning the following verdict.
Future medical treatment: $1,500,000
Past General Damages: $4,750,000
Future General Damages: $4,750,000
For a total of $11,000,000
Plaintiff, her husband, and daughter were incredibly relieved to be vindicated (no contributory negligence put on Plaintiff at all). While the trial was difficult for everyone involved, it was an incredibly gratifying experience for an incredibly deserving client.
Of note, Dr. Kromas -- a San Pedro chiropractor -- completely quarterbacked this case. Our client was a pre-existing patient of the chiropractor who not only got the case over to us but also managed her care, treated where appropriate, and even visited her patient in the hospital on multiple occasions. We all owe a debt of gratitude to this DC for seeing this case all the way through and really putting her patient’s interests first.
